Economists Robert Vergeer and Ronald Dekker state that flexible discharge regulations is disadvantuous for economic growth. In an article in ‘het Parool’ they clame that a growing job insecurity will lead to a decrease in consumption. Also insecure employees are less enthusiastic on innovations in their company, because often these result in discharges. That attitude will have a negative influence on the innovation force of the economy, they have written in ESB, the journal for economists.
The economists are not so sure that the labour market has to become more flexible. The unemployment is low and the supply of flexible jobs is high. It is not sure that making the discharge regulations more flexible will increase the flexibility on the labour market. Vergeer and Dekker came to this conclusion based on calculations of amongst others the Oeso.
The job insecurity is a factor that is often left out of the political and economic discussions on flexible regulations, state the economists. The economy will benefit more from education and elaborate chances to grow in another function.
