21-03-2007 - Wageningen UR wants 20% employees with temporary contract

Minimal 20% of the employees of the departments of Wageningen UR should have a temporary contract. This was announced by Wageningen UR in the Strategic plan for the years 2007 to 2010. At the moment the percentage of employees with a temporary contract is much lower, according to Simon Vink, spokesman of the board. The Strategic plan wants to enhance the mobility of the in total 5,400 employees.

Last week Wageningen UR signed a three year contract with Tempo Team and P/flex. This contract contains agreements on hiring secondment and detachment employees. Both companies have agreed to also recruit highly educated employees.

The board of directors also announced a five year job evaluations for permanent employees who are scaled in 15 or higher. “We strive to evaluate all employees like professors and business managers once every five years. This does not mean that they will be fired if they get a negative evaluation, but it is possible that a person will no longer be a professor but just a researcher”, according to Vink.

Wageningen UR wants to give more attention to career possibilities for female scientists within the organisation and wants also to attract more top talent. For this, every year two or three young promising scientists will get the offer to follow a career path which will result in a professor title.

The last announced measure is to make one collective labour agreement for both the university and the DLO institutes. At the moment they both have there own.
