27-03-2007 - Extended CV more popular

The days of the short CV seems to be over now managers are seeking new methods to select candidates. Long CV’s full details seems intuitive not the best way to get a job, but those who want to attract the attention of the responsible manager is better not to write a short CV of one sheet.

Research of employment agency Accountemps shows that most managers prefer a CV of one page, but the percentage that rather sees a longer CV has risen to 44 percent.

Nowadays it is acceptable to send in a CV of three pages for a management position. A third of the selecting managers says to find this the ideal length. Ten years ago only 7 % of the managers was of this opinion. One of the most important reasons for this swich is the increasing competition at the labour market. “Many employers take the extra time to read the applicants CV so that they can better decide who is appropriate for the job,” says Max Messmer, director of Accountemps.

But applicants must not send in long essays right away, he warns. “Employers like to invite applicants that are cable of dividing essentials and inessentials and who can summarize their experiences.”
