Friesland Foods Domo has officially opened the new factory for the production of galacto-oligosacharids (gos) at Borculo.

The last year Friesland Foods has invested 6.5 million euro in the production facility at Borculo. In the factory lactose received from forage is treated with a natural enzyme that turns lactose in a soluble fibres.

With the expansion of the production facility Friesland Foods Domo wants to meet the growing demand of soluble fibres for children nutrition, dairy products and drinks. Soluble fibres have a positive effect on the gut flora. In the nineties Friesland Foods Domo marketed galacto-oligosacharids under the name Vivinal GOS which was predominantly sold to baby food producers, but nowadays there are more applications possible in dairy products and fruit drinks.
