06-04-2007 - Short work distances more important then salary

Job seekers give more importance to short work distances then to salary or an interesting job. The growing need for private time makes people see travelling time is useless and waisted time.

Especially young highly educated are not willing to travel far. Over 90 percent of Higher Vocalists and academics are not willing to travel for a hour. 63 percent even thinks that 45 minutes is too long. Besides this job applicants see many employers as unreachable. This goes especial for employers who can only be reach via highways which are often blocked by traffic. Job applicants do not react to their job openings. But also employers who are located next to high traffic N roads do not receive many applicants.

This development also hurts organisations who are located far from residential areas, like on industrial areas or business parks. And because the demand of labour for highly educated is larger then the labour population, companies in the large cities are also negatively effected by this development.
