For the first time a silicon factory is build in the Netherlands. The name of the factory will be “The Silicon Mine”, in short TSM. This production site will be build on the Chemelot location near Sittard. Nearly 400 people can soon start to work in the TSM. Costs of the project are estimated at 400 milion euro. The silicon will be used to produce solar panels.
TSM is an initiative of three entrepreneurs: Gosse Boxhoorn, Hubert Thijs and Jan-Willem Hendriks. This project is financially supported by chemical concern DSM and the Limburg investment bank LIOF. The province Limburg also supports the plans and hopes that the factory will attract more employment in the sector for solar panels.
