07-02-2007 - IQ has little influence on a successful career

Your IQ has an influence of 15% on the success of your career. This according to Dan Pink, an American journalist who used to write speeches for amongst others Al Gore.

He sees an increasing importance for functions of the right half of the brain, like empathy and creativity, in business life.

Since cheap employees in Azian countries take over large parts of the repetitive work, the western countries evolve from analytical and an information thinking to a more conceptual tinking. Two skills play an important role within this concept. The first is conceptual thinking to find co-ordinate brain patterns and opportunities to grow. The second skill is empathy, the talent to put yourself in the position of the other party and to understand how you can associate with people on a subtle level.

These so called functions of the right half of the brain shall determine in the future who will be successful and who won’t.
