Staff members who survive a cut back are risking psychological problems due to the extra work pressure after the leave of their colleagues.
This according to Managers Online. A Finish research shows that males that survived a cut back are prescribed anti depressives 50% more often. Females have a chance of 12% that they will be prescribed medicines for psychological complaints, especially anxiety and panic attacks.
“Research among over 26.000 employees shows that a cut back in staff can cause serious psychological problems. Not only for the people who lose their job, but also for the people who are left behind,“ says professor Mika Kivimaki of the College University of London. “The remaining staff experiences higher work pressure, job insecurity and a feeling that they lose the control over their job. Exactly these issues lead to psychological problems and use of medicines according to many studies.”
