Two Japanese companies will open affiliates in or near Wageningen. The two foreign affiliates will create hundreds of jobs; not only as employees of the affiliates, but also as new employees of institutes and companies where research will be put out to contract.
Food Valley director Theo Meijer does not want to tell which companies have these plans. “They want to publish it themselves, but they are both companies with a turnover of billions of euro’s.” The Japanese companies that want to relocate to Europe choose for Food Valley because of the knowledge and the network, explains Meijer.
The Japanese companies fit in the international ambitions of Food Valley. Within two months Food Valley will publish a master plan with the strategy for the next 10 years. One of the objectives of the new strategy is to get more foreign companies to Food Valley.
Meijer states that here are negotiations with other companies to bring them also to Wageningen. Amongst them are companies from other Asian countries, Scandinavia and Ireland.
