13-02-2007 - Study for analysts in Delft closes

The “Mondriaan Onderwijsgroep” will not register any students for the MBO education Laboratory staff at Delft. Teachers, students and parents find this shocking.

In a press release the management expresses that a continuing of the study is irresponsible because the number of students is decreasing. There is a negative turn-over while investments in housing are needed. Unfortunately there is no HBO study at Delft, so no co operations are possible. Also the employment in the surroundings is not developing enough according to the management.

The laboratory study may finish this school year. After that the management hopes to relocate the study as quickly as possible to another school in the region, probably Rotterdam.

Teachers point to the fact that the education in Delft is one of the largest in the Netherlands. “If this decision is decisive for other ROC’s to also close their much smaller studies Laboratory staff, a national shortage of medical, chemical and biological analysts is  to be expected, “ they write in a letter to the press.

They point out that unemployment is practically zero amongst graduates. There are also social interest because many of the students are foreigners, that choose this study because of the good labour prospects.
