Friesland Foods will cooperate with the Australian dairy company Warrnambool Cheese and Butter Factory. The two have agreed to set up a 50/50 joint venture in Australia, as announced by Friesland Foods last Thursday.

The cooperation that is called Great Ocean Ingredients, will produce food and functional ingredients for the worldwide food, baby nurture and pharmaceutical industry. For this purpose a new factory will be build next to the existing factory of Warrnambool Cheese and Butter Factory in Allensford, Victoria. The total investment is 30 million euro. Friesland Foods expects that the new production facility will be operational in 2008.

Within the joint venture Friesland Foods Domo brings in expertise in development, technology and production of high quality ingredients on base of whey and milk. Warrnambool Cheese and Butter Factory is responsible for the delivery of whey.
