Support for foreign researchers in the Netherlands

More and more research institutes, universities and companies employ foreign researchers for their projects. Working in another country offers researchers possibilities to learn new skills, to work with specialised infrastructures and to work in a well established group. Host institutes obtain specific expertise and new contacts by bringing in foreign researchers.

When contemplating a move to the Netherlands, researchers are faced with practical problems. In many cases, these problems can have a large impact on the researcher’s decision to make the move or can make the first period of their stay in the Netherlands difficult. Researchers need information and practical assistance to overcome these practical problems.The European Commission has set up the European Network of Mobility Centres to provide information and practical assistance. ERA-MORE the Netherlands is the Dutch part of this European network.

ERA-MORE the Netherlands aims to facilitate the mobility of researchers to the Netherlands by providing information and assistance on:
o Job opportunities
o Fellowships and grants
o Immigration procedures
(visa formalities, work and residency permits)
o employment conditions
(salaries, taxation, pension righs, social security, health care)
o family-related issues
(housing, day care, schooling, language courses)

ERA-MORE the Netherlands will provide this information to researchers and their families and to support staff working at research institutes, universities and companies that employ foreign researchers.

ERA-MORE the Netherlands provides this information through the website www.eracareers.nl, by organising training sessions and workshops and by sending mailings about new developments. Personalised assistance can be obtained from one of the four mobility centres listed on the website.

ERA-MORE the Netherlands is funded by the European Commission and by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science. It works independently and on a non-profit base.
