| Work on the frontier of life sciences! Genomics is the frontier of life sciences research, and NGI is at the forefront of it. You could be, too. The Netherlands Genomics Initiative (NGI) is government taskforce dedicated to strengthening the genomics infrastructure in the Netherlands. To ensure a strong research source, NGI has clustered and combined leading Dutch research groups into Centres of Excellence, Technology Centres and Innovative Clusters. Because genomics’ social implications are central to the work of NGI and these groups, the Centre for Society and Genomics works to assess and influence genomics’ impact on society. NGI initiates public communication, and devotes special attention to educating and involving young people. Business creation is fundamental to capturing genomics’ economic potential. Therefore, NGI continuously seeks national and international business opportunities, and represents the Dutch genomics community abroad through participation in international organizations and events. The multidisciplinary scope and large scale of NGI’s research centres has increased the overall level of genomics research. New topics can now be explored and more researchers – from students to Ph.Ds and others – can now participate in high-quality, exciting projects. With so much still to be discovered, genomics is today’s most exciting research area – and a challenging career opportunity.
